Leadership Institutes are intensive and interactive small group environments created to develop the leadership skills of students while exposing them to the life-changing elements of a college campus.  By request, these Institutes can be created on any public university/college for a specific and targeted group of students (middle or high school; boys or girls).  All Institutes are 3 nights and 4 days and are tailored to a single gender of 50 students. During the Institute, students are involved in a variety of structured activities around the campus and conducted by Coalition staff to get them to realize their potential, help them understand the characteristics of great and influential leaders, develop their own individual leadership skills and assist them in recognizing that their goals and dreams become more attainable with a college education.

After arriving on the campus students are given their room assignments and shortly after begin participating in their activities.  Students are supervised around the clock, take daily tours to different parts of the campus, stay in dorm rooms (2 to a room), receive information about admissions and financial aid, and gain valuable insight while meeting and interacting with current university students.  Snacks, drinks and meals are all provided throughout the Institute.

Students will take part in interactive, thought-provoking and engaging exercises and activities focused on the following:

      · Leadership

· Behavior modification

· Self-appraisal

                       · Decision-making

3 Night/4 Day Summer Leadership Institute

What do the students have to say after attending the Summer Leadership Institute?
11th grade student
-  In the future, I promise to all of you that I will not drop out.  I will go to college.  I will get a good job.
-  My goals are to graduate from high school and go to college.
-  Before this Institute, I never thought I would learn so much stuff about life and college.
11th grade student
-  I want to have a family, beautiful wife, gorgeous children and a degree that gives me the job I love.
-  This Leadership Institute was a wakeup call, which rings for a couple of minute, but if you don’t hear it, you’re going to be late for life.
-  Before this week, I never thought of college really.  Thanks to you guys.  You gave me a whole new light of what opportunities I have.
-  When I get back home, I will look at school and my education with a whole different meaning.
-  Graduating from college is a dream that I’m going to fulfill.
11th grade student
-  I am a better person now than before I came here.  I feel that I learned a lot of stuff.
-  I want to change the percentage of native people not graduating.
-  The past 4 days at ASU was fun.  I never thought I would be sleeping in one of the dorms.  I guess it was like being in college but without classes.

-  My goal is to graduate from college.

-  Before this Leadership Institute, I never thought how much fun college can be.
-  In the future, I promise to all of you that I will be going to college.
12th grade student
-  My goals are to first get that diploma and then graduate from college.  Then to do what I love is playing baseball and working on cars.
-  Before this week, I never thought I would be a change face.  Seeing things more clearly and being a leader.
-  My dream is to see that the percentage of Native Americans graduating form college go up.
12th grade student
-  When I get back home, I will start work on my weaknesses and I won’t let anybody bring me down with them.
-  The past 4 days at ASU is for me the best experience I had in my 17 years here on mother earth.  It offered me encouragement, determination and it really opened my eyes.
